About the CIESIN Map Archive

The CIESIN Map Archive is a searchable digital archive of high-resolution static maps authored and maintained by the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University.

STAC

All maps in this archive are catalogued using the SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC) specification, enabling interoperability with the broader geospatial data ecosystem. Each map is a STAC Item with standardized metadata including spatial extent, date of production, and operational use case.

Collections

Maps are organized into thematic collections and can be browsed by administrative areas of interest, or searched by keyword, location, and date range.

This archive is a work in progress; Version 1.0 will include a limited set of maps of the Democratic Republic of the Congo produced between late 2024 and early 2026 as part of the GRID3 project's collaboration with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance's Equity Accelerator Fund (EAF).
